The Genesis of SPJCM's EMBA In 2004, the SPJCM campus was established in Dubai and the Executive MBA program was launched, the process adopted being bringing forth of best pedagogic practices in executive education. The program has gained wide acceptance among professionals and executives in the UAE, as also in neighboring countries, the region, which again, is reflected by the growing number of batches that are currently on. With the establishment of the 2nd International Campus in Singapore, it was decided to offer the exclusive EMBA program to the working executives and managers of Singapore also. The Executive MBA program of SPJCM is an intellectual journey in management education. It comprises a variety of academic and non-academic learning, which goes beyond the conventional classroom method. The entire learning process of SPJCM's EMBA program is focused on inculcating sensitivity to real world issues, along with the ability to become 'leaders and change agents' in one's chosen field.
Location and Infrastructure - Singapore SPJCM Singapore is located at Alexandra on No.10 Hyderabad road. It's a sprawling campus located close to down town Singapore in the education zone. The campus is a lush 7 acre park which encompasses a huge colonial structure and a 5 storied building. It has been refurbished and equipped with the latest state-of-the art technologies, learning management systems and campus infrastructure. SPJCM's EMBA Program Present day emerging business challenges require corporates to create a reservoir of versatile executives, having a strong blend of functional knowledge along with a general management perspective. Formal management education through a full-time MBA program can meet this need; but is not practical, requiring executives to stay away from their work place for an extended period. The EMBA is an integrated program designed to meet the needs of academically qualified professionals who wish to pursue an MBA degree while continuing with the full responsibilities of their workplace. The program requires serious commitment on part of the individual. The course work is rigorous and demanding; the result is an educational experience which ranks among the finest available in the region today. The program structure is designed uniquely to incorporate core courses on general management and then build on a set of specialization courses that provide in-depth coverage in a particular area. This rich exposure to a wide variety of relevant courses in a particular field (Finance, Marketing, and Operations) ensures the development and application of highly specialized skills and competencies in that particular field. To graduate, students must have to successfully complete 40 credits which include 24 Core Courses, 12 Elective courses and a Dissertation for 4 credits. The selection and sequence of courses are pre-designed and interdisciplinary perspectives define the program. The diverse inputs on Accounting, IT, Marketing, Finance, Organizational Behavior, Economics, and Statistics make the EMBA participants delve deeply into fundamental business practices and the underlying forces that make them work. The curriculum balances practical problem-solving with the development of broad perspectives and conceptual skills. Participants learn to use an array of academic disciplines and to analyze and understand key business issues. The course work prepares them to analyze situations, identify problems, create solutions, and implement these within the context of an organization. The program, thus combines the study of key conceptual frameworks and application of those frameworks to current business issues. The program provides opportunity to specialize and develop competences in areas of Finance, Marketing and Operations. A list of elective courses, under each area of specialization, is detailed in the program architecture later in the brochure. The list of courses mentioned is only indicative and the actual courses may change to reflect the emerging challenges in the changing business environment. Out of 25 courses offered across three areas of specialization, a student needs to register for 12 elective courses. The program offers opportunity of doing 'Dual Specialization' in the form of Major & Minor. For Dual Specialization a student has to do 7 courses from the Major area and 4 from the Minor area of specialization. A student can also opt to do a general management program instead of specializing in a particular area. In that case, the student has to register for 12 credits from courses offered across all the three areas of specialization. This 'flexibility' is a very unique feature of our EMBA program and is acknowledged by many to be of immense learning value. Pedagogy The pedagogy includes classroom lecture, case analysis and discussion, simulation games, role plays and group studies. The course study materials are given to the students in advance. Participants are expected to do their pre-session reading before coming to a class. Students are expected to be ready for surprise quizzes. For every contact hour a student is expected to devote at least 3 dedicated hours of studies. Group study is an integrated part of the program. This enhances peer group learning. Students are organized into study groups of four to six members. These groups work on assignments and where required make presentations as a team. This group format helps create life-long professional and personal relationships among members. It also replicates the real world of business, which operates through cooperation and team-work. The EMBA program is for graduate working executives possessing minimum three years of work experience. Candidates will be assessed for their suitability to the program, based on their educational qualifications and academic record, work experience, an aptitude test, case study analysis, and personal interview.
Performance Evaluation and Award of the Executive Masters in Business Administration Assessment will be on a continuous basis during both, the contact and off contact periods. Quizzes, surprise tests, assignment evaluations, group work, and comprehensive exams at the end of each course will form part of the assessment procedure. The participants will be appraised for their performance regularly. The formal certification titled Master of Business Administration (Executive) will be awarded by S P Jain Center of Management, Australia.
