Executive Business Administrative Management

The emerging business challenges require corporates to create a reservoir of versatile executives with a strong base of functional knowledge along with general management perspective. Formal management education through an MBA program can meet this need but is not practical, as it requires executives to stay away from their work place for an extended period. Distance education programs and other similar options lack quality, relevance to field realities, and hence effectiveness.

SPJCM's uniquely architectured EMBA program is designed with a potential to address the above shortcomings and fills the gap of providing high quality management education to practicing executives in the UAE.

Philosophic Underpinnings

SPJCM's approach to its academic offerings has been to formulate details based on definite and distinctive foundational premises. For the EMBA program, these are:

• The conventional classroom mode of learning can be leveraged significantly through non-classroom activities
  - a belief borne out of the successful practice of pedagogic approaches at SPJIMR, India with their other programs.
  
  
• Professional education can be best acquired by a two-stage process of :
  - acquisition of knowledge of theoretical concepts followed by
  - application of the concepts to real life situations
  
  
• Formal management education needs to sensitize participants to appreciate that the onus of learning in the ultimate analysis is mainly on the learner and that:
  - the process of learning needs to be continuous throughout the career and
  - the sources and methods of learning are varied.
  

Program Design

The philosophic underpinnings stated above are planned to be achieved through a range of pedagogic inputs and learning themes built into the program design. Application of knowledge and customization are the two fundamental features of the architecture of the program. At every stage, participants will be encouraged to introspect with a view to inculcating in them an ability to use intellectual curiosity to handle real life problems and learn from the outcomes thereof.

Program Structure

The Executive MBA Program is a two-year program designed to meet the needs of academically qualified professionals who wish to pursue an MBA degree while continuing to carry the full responsibilities of their jobs. The program requires a serious commitment on the part of the individual. The course work is rigorous and demanding; the result is an educational experience which ranks among the finest available in the region today.

The 2 year program is spread over 96 weeks which includes 48 weeks of contact learning classes and 48 weeks off-contact learning period. Contact classes on the campus will be in one week modules and each one week module will be followed by a one week off-contact period wherein participants will be required to do assignments and study to reinforce learnings.

In the first year of the EMBA Program, all students take the same courses together. The selection and sequence of courses are pre-designed and interdisciplinary perspectives define the program. The diverse inputs on Accounting, IT, marketing, finance, organizational behavior, economics, and statistics challenge the Executive MBA participants to see deeply into fundamental business practices and the underlying forces that make them work.

In The curriculum balances practical problem-solving with the development of broad perspectives and conceptual skills. Participants learn to use an array of academic disciplines and to analyze and understand key business issues. Course work will prepare them to analyze situations, identify problems, create solutions, and implement them within the context of an organization. The result is a program that combines the study of key conceptual frameworks and the application of those frameworks to the business issues of today.

In the second year, in addition to a few advanced courses in the core areas, participants have the choice to specialize and develop competencies in one of the following areas; Finance, Marketing, Global Human Resources Management or Operations. A list of courses under each specialization is detailed in the program architecture later in the brochure.

The program also organizes students into study groups of four to six members that work on assignments and present as a team. This tight group format helps create lifelong professional and personal relationships among members. It also closely replicates the real world of business, which operates through cooperation and teamwork.

Curriculum and Pedagogy

The program consists of 26 courses totaling 41 credits. The course outlines, study material, and assignments are given to the participants in advance. Participants are expected to come prepared for the class with the pre sessions readings. Every class session starts with an on line quiz and the professor fine tunes his delivery based on the class performance on the quiz. After the completion of a one-week module, participants are given assignments to be completed and submitted when they come for the next week module. During the off-contact period, participants are expected to put in at least 15 to 20 hours per week, on assignments and pre-readings.

Participants Profile

Our EMBA participants are successful business executives and professionals. A snapshot of recent batches includes professionals from the following sectors; Finance and Banking, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Consulting, Advertising/Media, Logistics and Distribution.

EMBA participants provide an extraordinary learning resource to one another. Each class consists of up to 60 students who have been carefully chosen both for their overall abilities and for the contributions they can make to the learning process. Selection Criteria

As this program is for working executives you need to have worked full time for a minimum of 3 years. Candidates shall be assessed for their suitability to the program based on their educational qualifications and academic record, work experience; a test, group discussion and personal interview.

Performance Evaluation and Award of Diploma

Assessment will be on a continuous basis during both, the contact and off contact periods. Quizzes, surprise tests, assignment evaluations, group work, and comprehensive exams at the end of each course will form part of the assessment procedure. The participants will be appraised for their performance reqularly.

The formal certification titled Master of Business Administration (Executive) will be awarded by S P Jain Center of Management, Australia.
