In addition to technical knowledge for decision-making, employers in virtually every field prize two key skills in their employees, and consistently seek, retain, and reward men and women possessing them. These skills are leadership and communication. S P Jain is unique among business schools in the way we address these needs and prepare students in these areas. In Passport to Excellence, students learn:
- Effective business writing including, not just “how to” write certain documents, but how to analyze situations to determine what mode and tone works best in any situation.
- Oral communication including interviews, presentations, spontaneous conversations, persuasive/dissuasive arguments, and e-communication.
- Increased fluency in English to better perform in a global, English-speaking business environment.
- Communication management and theory including conflict resolution, crisis communication, and cross-cultural communication.
- Leadership skills, personality development, and business ethics.
- Research and citation skills for better, results-oriented reporting.
- Understanding the job interview process from both sides of the desk. Knowledge of how interviews are conducted will not only help executives with their own recruiting, but helps all interviewees to prepare correctly for and overcome nervousness in interviews.
In addition to all of the above, P2E helps participants who wish to change careers by making them familiar with their new primary industry of interest. This "soft knowledge" includes the history, current trends, economic statistics, demographics, current literature, and influential figures of the industry. This broad, non-technical knowledge helps students to have successful job interviews, and helps newly-hired students to better adapt to their environment.
Passport to Excellence is a one-year-long, fully-integrated component of the Global MBA program, with faculty support available on campus to students six days a week.
At S P Jain, our goal is to graduate mature professionals who create a positive impact in their careers and in their communities.
The program is directed by Dr. Melvin Sterne and staffed by seven dedicated faculty, four in Singapore and three in Dubai. More faculty are planned for Sydney when our new campus opens there in the fall of 2012. Our faculty includes (in addition to Dr. Sterne) Dr. Bhanu Ranjan, Dr. Caryn Voskuil, Dr. Guillermo Gibens, Dr. Shelbee Nguyen, Dr. Adele Zhang, and V.S. Dhannya. Few business colleges, if any, have as comprehensive a communications program or as impressive a faculty as S P Jain.
